2008 Berks County Chiefs of Police Annual Awards Presentation
2008 President's Award Deborah C. Motika St. Joseph Medical Center Chemistry Laboratory Manager
In recognition of her tireless and faithful contribution to the mission of the Berks County Chiefs of Police Association and the Berks County law enforcement community, and to the welfare of the citizens of Berks County, by continually working and communicating with the police community on issues relating to the chemical testing of suspected DUI offenders in order to unite the sometimes conflicting interests of the health care and criminal justice systems so that these offenders can be held appropriately accountable for the threat they pose to the health, safety, and welfare of all the citizens of our communities. The Berks County Chiefs of Police Association Hereby presents it’s prestigious annual President’s Award to Deborah C. Motika, St. Joseph Medical Center Chemistry Laboratory Manager. This 16th Day of December 2008
President Theodore Roth presents Past President Barry Leatherman with a plaque commemorating his past service as President of the Chiefs' of Police Association for 2006-2007.
2008 Citizens Awards President Theodore Roth presents Mr. Anthony J. Troyan with a 2008 Citizen's Award. On March 26, 2008 Birdsboro resident Anthony J. Troyan observed a suspicious male between two houses in the borough. Recognizing the individuals actions as being out of place, Mr. Troyan continued to watch the individual and eventually observed him attempt to forcibly enter several residences until he did in fact succeed in forcibly gaining entry into a residence. Mr. Troyan called the police to report these actions then he continued to watch and he eventually identified the individual who was taken into custody by police. As a direct result of Mr. Troyan’s sense of duty and commitment to his community, and his willingness to sacrifice of his own time and potentially even his own safety, a criminal and a menace to the citizens of Berks County was arrested, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to 6 to 23 months in prison, in recognition of which the Berks County Chiefs’ of Police Association presents it’s prestigious annual Citezen’s Award to Anthony J. Troyan this 16th Day of December 2008.
(President - Chief Theodore Roth, Jillian Schweitzer, Lewis F. Aquino and Chief - Past President Brian Hiester.) President Theodore Roth and Past President Brian Hiester present Mr. Lewis F. Aquino with a 2008 Citizen's Award. On May 4, 2008 Mr. Lewis F. Aquino was approached by two individuals who jumped into his vehicle, told him the police were after them, and offered him $100 for a ride. The two individuals were in fact fleeing from Cumru Twp. Police after a traffic stop encounter in which an officer was injured. Mr. Aquino refused the solicitation and offer of money from these two criminals, and despite the potential risk to his own personal safety, ordered them out of his vehicle, promptly notified police, and later identified one of the individuals, who was apprehended in the vicinity. As a direct result of Mr. Aquino’s sense of duty and commitment to his community, and his willingness to sacrifice of his own time, and potentially even his own safety, a criminal and a menace to the citizens of Berks County was arrested and brought to justice, in recognition of which the Berks County Chiefs’ of Police Association presents it’s prestigious annual Citizen’s Award to Lewis F. Aquino This 16th day of December 2008.
